Young Witches & Wizards Make Their Mark on Harry Potter's 20th Anniversary!
July 4, 2017
Who can believe that Harry and his Hogwarts companions have been in our lives for twenty years?! Feel old yet?
While The Luminarium has only been around for less than a year, we've already had the pleasure of inducting hundreds of talented witches and wizards into the Wizarding World right across SE Queensland. Our team of professors has also grown, with new additions joining us for recent events such as The Kidney Kids Health Camp on the Gold Coast in April, and the Wizarding World Workshops in Paddington in June.
KIDNEY KIDS HEALTH CAMP
We were invited by Kidney Health Australia to present our Wizarding World Tournament to over 130 kids aged 6-18 from all over Australia who are affected by Kidney Disease (and around 100 volunteers!). We left Brisbane very early on the 21st April to take our entourage of Professors (pictured right) and wizarding equipment to the Sports Super Centre at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast.
The swarm of red & white clad participants and volunteers filled every nook and cranny as they moved between six stations of creative and activities including:
Potions with Professor Kellywinkle
Defence Against the Dark Arts with Professor Weezii
Divination with Professor Ci-Ci
Care of Magical Creatures with Professor Goanna Salamander
Weasley's Wizard Wheezes with Professor Spinx
Charms & Spells with Professor Maxibon
It was inspiring to see the teamwork and camaraderie between the happy campers and the volunteers, and we were thrilled to be part of such a positive and uplifting event. Huge shout out to Kidney Health Australia for organising such an amazing event every year.

WIZARDING WORLD WORKSHOPS
We returned to the fabulous BrisWest Centre in Paddington in the June school holidays for a fresh round of Wizarding Workshops featuring the ever popular Master Potions for Witches & Wizards (which included the exciting addition of a 'Make Your Own Concoction' activity where students could brew and bottle their very own beautiful or dastardly potion). Our Try-Wizards Tournaments were back, with brave souls queuing out the door to enter their name into the Goblet of Fire.
In the morning we kicked off with The Original Try-Wizard Tournament where witches, wizards and Muggles competed for eternal glory across the magical disciplines of Potions, Divinations, Care of Magical Creatures and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
In the afternoon, participants could stretch their wizarding prowess further in the All-New Try Wizard Tournament with alternate Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts, as well as Charms & Spells and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.
As a special addition to this event, we also played host to a super-condensed version of Diagon Alley when a couple of graduate witches, Sandy and Madeline (aka Wand Wavers) returned with great entrepreneurial flair to sell their handmade wands. It was fantastic to see so many participants waving these bespoke pieces and marvelling at their detail. We hope to invite more stalls and entrepreneurial spirits to join us at future events.
While we didn't make it into The Daily Prophet, we were stoked to see out original Lumistars smiling back from the pages of Westside News and The Courier Mail.

We will be opening bookings for September school holidays early - stay tuned so you don't miss out on what will be a magical memory for your child to cherish. Don't take it from us, heres what previous participants had to say about out latest event:
"This was the best day of our lives!"
"It was messy, it was fun, I loved it!"
Until then, feel free to snitch on us and spread the word!
