Magic, Mess and Merriment! The Luminarium Festival makes its mark in Brisbane & Caboolture in January.
January 23, 2017
The Luminarium team have had a super busy January since wrapping up the Brisbane and Caboolture festivals. We've been uploading photos and videos, sharing the films of participants in Defence Against the Dark Arts with parents, calculating winners of our four Try-Wizard Tournaments, and scheming up a whole calendar of events to provide even more opportunities for fun and exploration for the first half of the year! Check out the Calendar here, so you can start planning your year ahead. Read on and ogle the pics to relive all the fun from our last events.
Our Potions classes in Brisbane were a messy hit, with rubber gloves snapping on and off, measurements made more or less precisely, and goggles fogging up with fun. This is such a great way to increase engagement with science, allowing students' imaginations to bubble over with possibilities.
The Try-Wizard Tournament introduced students to 21st Century project-based learning with teams working between four hands-on activity stations based on the magical disciplines of 'Divination', 'Defence Against the Dark Arts', 'Potions', and 'Care of Magical Creatures'. Students could divine their futures with tea leaves and numerology, write, direct and perform a wizarding duel, brew magical concoctions, and design habitats fit for high-maintenance magical creatures.
We are currently developing four brand new activities to include in future Tournaments so that participants can re-enter the Wizarding World over and over again.

Finally, our special workshop for young designers, infused mathematics with craft and creativity as students built their own level of a Multi-Storey Treehouse!
Thanks to all our our enthusiastic and friendly parents and carers who brought along their little Potter fans, and of course to the participants themselves - you brought the venue alive with your dedication to the wizarding theme in creative costumes (despite the heat!) and with such fantastic teamwork and spirit. We had such a great time delivering these events, and hope you all loved it too!

Congratulations to all those souls who bravely entered their name into the Goblet of Fire - your submissions were truly magical and imaginative.
